I am pleased to welcome you to the Cochrane Editorial Unit (CEU) website. We hope to build a valuable resource to inform you about our work, and invite feedback. The purpose of the CEU is to support Cochrane entities in improving the quality of The Cochrane Library. We also aim to help build both participation in Collaboration activities, and the use of Cochrane reviews to inform healthcare decisions.

I am fortunate to work with an excellent team that includes Harriet MacLehose and Toby Lasserson, both of whom are well known within the Collaboration for their work in the Cochrane Infectious Diseases and Airways Review Groups. We also welcome Giovanna Ceroni as Business Manager, and my PA, Hilary Wilson.

Issue 2 of 2010 of The Cochrane Library is now available (click here for highlights of new and updated reviews). From January 2010, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and the ‘About The Cochrane Collaboration’ database are being published monthly.

Members of the CEU attended the 17th Cochrane Colloquium in Singapore. This offered an excellent opportunity for taking stock and looking forward, in the light of the Collaboration’s Strategic Review.

We presented a report from the self-audit exercise completed during the Summer of 2009 by Cochrane Review Groups (CRGs). The audit findings became a major vehicle for stimulating discussions on improving the communication and sharing of expertise between CRGs, and led to concrete proposals for improving our processes.

We also further explored the role of the CEU within the Collaboration, and our plans for product development, including some exciting new proposals introduced by our colleagues at Wiley-Blackwell, such as the Cochrane Journal Club.
